The 12th edition of our monthly update series is finally here! The month has been packed with interesting developments in the R&D department, including the much-awaited and long overdue publication of the Whitepaper 2.0.
Development
The development of the VM has continued under the hood, with an emphasis on the flexibility of the functionality relating to the zero-knowledge proof verification that our proposition will offer.
The team has also upgraded the BLS signature module which drastically increased the signature generation and batching times in comparison to the previous implementation.
Aside from that, the team has been busy fixing minor bugs discovered during the execution of the Testnet and upgrading the node implementation to improve the usability and efficiency.
We had a pleasure to greet two new full-time members into the ever-expanding Dusk Network R&D team. Victor Lopez and Kristoffer Ström have joined the cluster working on our own Virtual Machine.
Research
After a long period of writing and editing, we have finally published the second version of our whitepaper. Our aim with the upgraded whitepaper was to provide an in-depth technical overview of the technologies that the Dusk Network protocol deploys without overwhelming the casual readers. The novel protocols utilized by Dusk Network will be outlined in separate academic papers with more details. From now on, the paper will go through regular iterative updates as the Dusk Network protocol evolves.
The team has also begun the research into alternative zero-knowledge proof protocols, specifically Sonic and the recently published Plonk. Both of the protocols utilize an updateable universal structured reference string, which only requires a trusted setup during the instantiation of the protocol. The minor compromise opens the way for a major speedup in terms of proof generation and verification times when compared to the Bulletproofs.

Aside from the publication of our brand new whitepaper, the team had published numerous articles including one on digital security issuance and another discussing Luke’s trip to Crypto 2019 conference in Santa Barbara.
In August, DUSK has been listed on Switcheo, a decentralized exchange (DEX).
Dusk Network has made its appearance in an episode of The Barometer at RTL, a Dutch national television channel.
